Hawks win five in local derby Gippsland League

Drouin travelled to Warragul for the local derby clash in round three on Sunday.

The Hawks came away with five wins from six games played.

Charlize Traumanis slotted into the team and proved unstoppabl­e in the air at goal shooter. Brydie Cunningham and Jodie Proctor worked hard in goal attack to create space in the ring.

Ruby Pratt dug deep and set the tone of the attack end beautifull­y. Deb Thomas, Tilly Carroll and Ruby Pritchett created turnovers in the middle with their defensive pressure.

Defenders Chelsea De Riter, Lainey Downey and Sara Russell proved their versatilit­y, rotating through and standing up against a quality attack. A great overall team win.

C grade: Drouin 56 defeated Warragul 31

It was a tough, tight contest right from the first whistle. The Hawks a little slow out of the blocks, but built nicely across the game and finished strongly.

The attack end are growing with confidence each week, working out teammates’ strengths and using them.

Kaylee Nalder was great in goal attack. She shot beautifull­y and her defence efforts were huge.

Defensivel­y, the Hawks continued their great form. It was a real team game, with lots of movement. Different combinatio­ns were put out on court and players transition­ed seamlessly.

17 and under: Drouin 57 defeated Warragul 18

The Hawks had another strong game against the Gulls.

Leilani “Lulu” Lightowler was impressive in defence, with Mylie Stoll. The pair created lots of turnovers and brought the ball back down the court beautifull­y. The attack end worked seamlessly, with lots of movement. The ball speed was wonderful to see.

15 and under: Drouin 44 defeated Warragul 33

The girls saw their first win of the season in a great game of netball against the Gulls.

The Hawks came out firing and got a good lead on the board from the first quarter.

Emmy Kneebone was fantastic in defence, creating plenty of turnovers for the attack end to score off. Makaylah Monckton worked well with Emmy to build pressure in the midcourt and had great speed down the court.

Fiona Nalder moved and shot beautifull­y in goal attack as well as defending hard across the whole court.

13 and under: Drouin 35 defeated Warragul 8

The girls showed the Gulls that they were there to win. They went out and played a great oneon-one defence all the way down the court.

Their attacking and coming towards the ball really made a difference, allowing the ball to flow down the court. A great fought out win.
