Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin - Property
Slice of vintage charm
This old-school Miami beach house is tipped to bring plenty of interest when it goes to auction, with a stunning location that’s hard to beat
IT’S a big weekend on the Coast with a beachfront cottage expected to garner plenty of attention when it goes under the hammer on Sunday.
The one-bedroom home at 58 Marine Pde, Miami, has been in the Kathage family for 52 years. With peeling paint and an original Hills hoist clothesline, the weatherboard home has attracted plenty of interest because of its beachfront position.
Ron London Estate agents principal Ron London is marketing the property.
“We have had 47 home inspections since the home went on the market,” Mr London said.
“There have been a few (potential) buyers from Melbourne and Sydney but the property is getting a lot of attention from locals who want to build their dream beachfront home. Land like this doesn’t come up often.
“There is no parking on the streetfront, which has been really attractive to buyers.”
The latest sale on the street was No. 114, which sold for $3.025 million in February.
This weekend’s auction is being called by Apollo Auctions auctioneer Justin Nickerson, who said older beach-style homes had become more popular in the past year.
“A lot of young professionals and homebuyers in the building industry are picking these properties up,” he said.
“Renovating an old home has really taken off because people don’t want something that is necessarily brand new. Homeowners really like adding their own touches to their homes.”
Mr Nickerson expected plenty of people to come along to the auction. “The beachfront location and the 1950s appeal is really going to pull in some crowds,” he said.
