Jungle residence takes you to Bali and back
Uniqueness screams from every corner of this five-bedroom Carrara home, making its new owners the envy of the neighbourhood.
IT is the jungle home in the middle of the Gold Coast.
Open wide 300-year-old Indian doors to a tropical hideaway enhanced with dozens of indoor plants.
Bali inspiration is evident in every room with timber highlights, animal-skin rugs and themed ornaments.
Homeowners Henry Kulhan and his partner Karin Tom said the design started with a rainforest tree dining table when they holidayed in Bali and cascaded from there.
“Karin bought the house in 1989 and it wasn’t a tropical place at all, the style was completely different,” Mr Kulhan said.
“But in the past seven years we have really transformed it.
“I have spent $20,000 on the greenery and botanicals alone.”
A salt water pool, lounge room and two bedrooms were added onto the design.
The castle-like door is sealed by a large piece of timber which slides across.
Poised on an 853sq m block, the house channels a relaxing resort style.
The five-bedroom home at 49 Fitzwilliam St is described by Harcourt’s Coastal agent Campbell Moore as a sensational entertainer.
“The home is spread over two levels and joins outside living to inside,” Mr Moore said.
“The floorplan is really functional and allows the home to flow effortlessly from internal living spaces to the oversized undercover entertaining area and out to the saltwater swimming pool.”
