Making very most of postcard-perfect setting
A love of the wonderfully picturesque Tallebudgera Valley saw this industriously creative couple return and create their tranquil dream home
PETER and Kerry Cantrall were living in a small residence on 2.54ha in Tallebudgera Valley when they decided to give themselves a project.
“We saw the potential to build a house,” Mr Cantrall said. “We started building last July and completed it in February.”
The couple bought 75 Rusty Court in 2015 and recognised the opportunity under their noses.
“We were living in the garage, except it wasn’t the garage then,” Mr Cantrall said.
“The three garages and self-contained flat was the original residence.”
A cellar connects this one-bedroom, onebathroom space to the main house which has another three bedrooms, and a large kitchen and living area overlooking a pool and the valley beyond.
Mr Cantrall said the architect and builder did a fantastic job.
“We asked for a spacious home, a liveable home and a very practical home,” he said “I love the spacious living area and the ease of it. There’s a real flow-on effect from back to front.”
The split-level 556sq m floorplan is designed to capitalise on the valley views.
“It’s the sort of house where you can make a cup of coffee and not disturb anyone at the other end,” Mr Cantrall said.
The couple has had ties to the Gold Coast since the 1980s.
“Who doesn’t love Tallebudgera Valley?” Mr Cantrall said. “You Google it and Tallebudgera is there in the top 10 places to live. It’s peaceful, quiet and the valleys are always green.”
