Island paradise

Watch dolphins and dugongs from the comfort of your own house at Ephraim Island

- WORDS ALEISHA PIDGEON

IT’S luxurious, stylish and the view is something else.

Welcome to 24 Ephraim Pde – a rare island paradise with its own private beach.

Only a strip of sandy shoreline separates the three-level residence from dolphins and dugongs. With this in mind, it’s no wonder Kim Robinson and her family moved into the majestic house six years ago.

“This is the ultimate, having your own private beach,” Ms Robinson said. “Especially with young children, they are so safe. The fact we’ve got dolphins and dugongs on our back door is pretty insane.”

Ms Robinson said her family spent a lot of time “out the back” often taking chairs down to their beach.

“The pool is fully heated and the kids loved to play in there, jump in the Broadwater and then come up to the pool,” she said. “We’ve got the outdoor shower there too for the kids.

“We used to have a water trampoline and the whole neighbourhood knew about it so everyone would come over on the weekends.

“Technically we own to the high tide line but everyone just thinks it’s a private beach and never comes up here.

When they moved in, the family undertook a $1 million renovation.

“The Mirvac properties are all solid concrete but we put in marble throughout,” Ms Robinson said.

“All the timber work and all the marble work was done by us,” Ms Robinson said.

“We redid the kitchen, which is by Paul Clout, who updated all the interior.”

“We spent about three months just doing interior renovations.

“We painted the whole house and put in electric screens and electric blinds throughout, even outside.”

Ms Robinson said the floorplan was simple and family-friendly.

“There’s four bedrooms upstairs and the main living area downstairs, then the very ground level with the garage,” she said.

“The movie room is all soundproof and we had the kids in here playing the drums.”

There’s also a lift, study, gym, pool and outdoor kitchen. But the true hero of the home, suitably named the Beach House, is its oasis-like location.

“The main feature obviously is the view,” Ms Robinson said. “Every morning I’d wake up and go, ‘oh that’s amazing’.

“When we started thinking about moving I was very torn.”

Ephraim Island is a luxury residential enclave in Paradise Point encompassing parkland, a recreational club and a private marina.

Ray White Sovereign Islands marketing agent Alex Phillis described the property as being “super exclusive”.

“It’s a highly desirable product as nothing like it exists,” Mr Phillis said.
