Welcome to the ultimate entertainer complete with a sports bar, beer garden and fire pit

- WORDS HANNAH SBEGHEN

SHAGPILE carpet in the kitchen and yellow wallpaper throughout wasn’t enough to deter homeowners Amber Hill and her family from buying this 1980s home six years ago.

Fast-forward and the same five-bedroom house on 154 Alison Rd has no trace of its retro past. Instead it is a now a modern work of art that passers-by stop and admire.

Mrs Hill said the secret was their “builder’s vision” and tonnes of magazine inspiration.

“It was a bit tragic when we first stepped through,” Mrs Hill said.

“There was shagpile carpet everywhere, you name it, it was even in the toilet. But we could tell it had great bones and we knew we could work with the layout.”

Since buying it, the Hill family spent the next five years giving the house a huge cosmetic facelift. “I spent a lot of time on Pinterest and had an impressive magazine stack,” Mrs Hill said.

Poised elegantly on 1619sq m of manicured lawn, Mrs Hill said not one part of the house was knocked down to make way for the modern design.

“We kept it just the way it was, it just needed some help here and there.”

With a Palm Springs influence and a hint of Vogue luxury, the home is a testament to stylish living.

As the family’s sixth renovation, she said the only extensions they added to the Cararra property were a garage, timber deck and pool.

The sprawling single-level residence is surrounded by tropical gardens and was designed for an entertaining lifestyle.

Soaring doors glide back for a seamless entrance to the undercover entertaining deck, which has a barbecue kitchen with water facilities and a bar fridge.

A sports bar complete with beverage fridges, wall-mounted TVs and speakers, bathroom and beer garden with integrated seating are just the beginning of the entertainment features.

The home also includes a fire pit and timber arbour.

“The property is really special because we have a parcel of council land that extends from our backyard to the river,” Mrs Hill said.

“Having three kids it means they have more room to grow up and run around.”

While the deck captures tropical poolside views, Mrs Hill said her three children have enjoyed the water slide the most.

“I don’t know how to describe the property but it is definitely one for a family,” Mrs Hill said.
