Boldly rid­ing surge

Burleigh Wa­ters has be­come one of the most sought af­ter Gold Coast sub­urbs, as this record-break­ing auc­tion re­sult last week­end tes­ti­fies

EV­ERY­ONE wants to live in Burleigh Wa­ters. That’s ac­cord­ing to Ray White Broad­beachMer­maid Wa­ters agent Troy Fitzger­ald, who sold a five-bed­room home at auc­tion last week­end for $1.655 mil­lion.

“This smashed the record price for Burleigh Wa­ters dry blocks by over $300,000,” he said.

The prop­erty at 36 Banksia Broad­way fea­tures a raft of lux­u­ri­ous fea­tures in­clud­ing a me­dia room, al­fresco area, pool, out­side hot shower and games room.

Mr Fitzger­ald said the buy­ers were from the Gold Coast.

“We had about 90 peo­ple at the auc­tion and nine reg­is­tered bid­ders,” he said. “The buy­ers were from Talle­budgera Val­ley.”

The me­dian house price in Burleigh Wa­ters is $750,500, ac­cord­ing to CoreLogic data to July, 2017 – it’s up 1.8 per cent over the past three months and a huge 53 per cent over five years.

Mr Fitzger­ald pre­dicted Burleigh Wa­ters to con­tinue to surge and said it was one of the “best places to live on the Gold Coast”.

“That lit­tle pocket in Burleigh Wa­ters re­ally is the beach­side pocket of Burleigh,” he said.

“It’s walk­ing dis­tance to James St, the beach, The Vil­lage Mar­kets, cafes and restau­rants.

“There’s a lot of peo­ple with new builds and ren­o­va­tions in Burleigh and you might find there will be an in­flux of those types of prop­er­ties on the mar­ket now that this prop­erty at Banksia Broad­way sold for such a high price.”

The high­est price paid for a house in Burleigh Wa­ters was $1.95 mil­lion in Septem­ber.

The prop­erty is on the wa­ter­front at 65 Wedge­bill Pde.
