Paul Harms and wife Nicki Galway are the brains behind the residence – it is the pair’s fourth house they’ve either renovated or built together and the finished product shows off their expertise.

“We actually bounce ideas off each other,” Mr Harms said. “If we don’t agree with something we come up with another solution.”

Mr Harms, a builder who owns Gold Coastbased business PJH Constructi­ons, said the pair subdivided the corner block after buying it last year. “The plan was to demolish the house that was on there,” Mr Harms said. “We came up with a design that met the height restrictio­ns and we’ve got another design for the other half of the block.”

The pair, who have two young daughters, spent five months building the house before they moved in earlier this year.

From the outside the house stands out with a mix of clean lines, timber and concrete.

The concrete and timber panelling combinatio­n continues inside while high ceilings and luxury finishes complement the style.

“We’ve gone for earthy materials and tried to get a feature in every room,” Mr Harms said. “One of the biggest features is the concrete formed wall – it goes 6m up into the void. “The cantilever­ed oak stairs with the
