Views worth $5.6m

The multi-million dollar price for this beach house is testament to Currumbin’s growing popularity

- WORDS ALEISHA DAWSON

AN INTERSTATE buyer has paid $5.6 million for a spectacular Currumbin beach house, the second highest sale recorded in the suburb.

Carol Carter of Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty handled the sale and said the ocean views and quality of the build set the house apart.

“Currumbin is a very popular area and highly sought after and it’s hard to find good properties as there’s not much available,” Ms Carter said.

“The thing most people liked about this property was the quality of the home which is a solid construction and exceptional finishes. The views are also sensational.”

Ms Carter described the Gold Coast prestige market as “stronger than it has been for some time”.

“We are finding we are getting more inquiries from interstate buyers who are looking to move here permanently,” she said.

“We used to be just seen as a holiday destination where people would holiday but now there’s a wider percentage of interstate interest because they’re moving here.

“Technology is changing the way people live and how they operate their businesses – you don’t have to be sitting in an office all the time.”

The highest sale in Currumbin was $8.2 million in 2010 for a six-bedroom house on James St.

And in other news, industry stakeholders and experts convened in Surfers Paradise this week for a large-scale event looking at the Gold Coast property market.

The Forecast was held on Wednesday, and featured speakers including REA Group chief economist Nerida Conisbee who revealed insights including an increase in the number of Gold Coast property seekers by 13 per cent in 2017. Attendees were also informed of the local suburbs in highest demand among renters and home buyers.

Among the suburbs were Kirra, Bilinga, Tallebudgera and Currumbin Valley, with Kirra and Bilinga both featuring in the national top 10 sought-after suburbs for renters.
