Setting a lofty record
An extensive refurbishment has helped this grand sub-penthouse sell before auction for $2.6 million
A LUXURY sub-penthouse has set a new multimillion-dollar sales record for Paradise Waters’ Grand Mariner building.
The apartment at 185/12 Commodore Drive sold for $2.6 million before it was scheduled to go under the hammer on Saturday, March 24.
Marketing agent Jackson Paradise, of Ray White Prestige Gold Coast, said the building’s previous record was more than $1.8 million while a villa separate to the building held the property’s record after selling for $2 million last year.
“It’s just smashed the record price in the building,” Mr Paradise said.
He said buyers from Melbourne bought the sprawling skyhome, which occupies more than half of the building’s 37th floor.
“They want to use the apartment up here just for holidays,” Mr Paradise said.
The apartment’s vendor, David Evans, stripped the property back before refurbishing it.
The result was a sleek, luxury abode.
“I bought it in 2015 when it was totally original, it would have been about 25-yearsold then, and I demolished it right back,” Mr Evans told the Bulletin when his property was featured in the Real Estate magazine last month.
“I wanted it to be timeless – we lifted all the ceilings, which was a big job to do in an apartment building, just to really bring the ocean and skyline views inside more.
“I worked on it for about a year, I thought about the design carefully. I think it’s quite spectacular compared to what it was before.”
From the limestone-finished master ensuite to the gourmet kitchen with marble island bench and freestanding 600-bottle wine cellar, the apartment exudes sophistication.
Mr Paradise said potential buyers came in droves to catch a glimpse of the property, with some even offering their price. “We had 85 inspections,” he said. “There were multiple offers before and multiple interested parties.”
