Beachfront home like no other

The unique design of this beachfront home at Miami makes the most of its ocean views with tiered levels and large balconies

- WORDS JESSICA BROWN

EVERY inch of this three-storey Miami home has been carefully designed to make the most of its ocean views.

Its top two levels are tiered, stepping down from the back to the front with widewindowed balconies overlooking the beachfront to ensure the water can be seen from most rooms in the house.

Owner Tony Wilson said it was one of his favourite features of the house.

“I love the different areas, you’ve always got a view through to the ocean on every level,” he said.

Mr Wilson and wife Nikki have been living in the house with their children for the past decade.

They designed and built it as the home of their dreams.

“It was always the goal to end up living on the beach,” Mr Wilson said.

“I go out (on the balcony) every day and it still blows me away.”

On the ground floor, a water feature that looks like it’s spilling from the bottom of the pool as well as the feature staircase greets guests.

There are three bedrooms, one of which has an ensuite while a second bathroom is shared between the other two, and a media lounge with wet bar that opens up onto a terrace and green backyard.

The second floor is dedicated to the main living area.

The kitchen is at its heart with a large living area that opens onto an entertaining balcony overlooking the beach.

Mr Wilson said there had been many parties held on the balcony, which has an outdoor kitchen.

On the other side, the 19m heated lap pool stretches from the kitchen window to the back of the house.

It has a large terrace with an electronic awning that can be moved to shade or reveal more sunlight as well as a wetbar and bathroom.

Mr Wilson preferred the pool and kitchen next to each other as they were the two busiest areas of the home and therefore encouraged the family to spend time together.

“You’re not isolated from the family,” he said.

A gym is at the back of the home with a steam room that has been raise to sit above the pool. The top level is dedicated mostly to the master bedroom, which is also tiered to ensure there are uninterrupted views from the spa.

Mr Wilson said they were sad to leave the home but had recently bought a beach shack further down the street they planned to renovate.

“We’re sad to be leaving but excited to be doing another project,” he said. “Hopefully someone will buy it and take really good care of it.”
