Agents to march to a new beat

Pink’s drummer Mark Schulman will be one of 21 speakers at AREC next month

- WORDS KIRSTEN CRAZE

SINGING superstar Pink calls her drummer “Disneyland” because he is the “happiest guy on earth” but Mark Schulman is not just the pop star’s positivity guru.

When Schulman (pictured) is not keeping rhythm with Pink on her regular world tours, the professional musician is hitting the global stage as a keynote speaker teaching Fortune 500 companies how to empower and inspire.

He counts Australia as one of his favourite destinations.

“All up I’ve probably spent well over a year down under and I’m in love with Australians. I think Aussies also really get Pink because by nature they’re very straightforward, tell-it-asthey-see-it people,” he said.

“They don’t sugar coat and Pink is very much the same way. She’s very direct, very honest, but she’s very kind and I see a lot of that in Australians,” he said.

Schulman is bringing his high-impact performance down under next month for the 2019 Australasian Real Estate Conference (AREC), where he will inspire Aussie real estate agents to live by the power of gratitude and march to the beat of their own drum.

More than a so-called motivational speaker, Schulman is described on the circuit as “Tony Robbins meets Ringo Starr” because his unique show combines his drumming prowess with more than 30 years of onstage experience touring with the biggest names in rock, such as Pink, Foreigner, Cher, Billy Idol and Sheryl Crow.

Schulman’s speaking “brand” is about harnessing the rock star attitude, but he admits that at first the label felt cliche.

“I thought the word ‘rock star’ had been used ad nauseam. I thought ‘Oh god, that’s the last thing I wanna say’, but I have earned the right to talk about rock stars and use that as my brand because I’ve lived that lifestyle,” he said. Today the term rock star is often appropriated in business to describe high achievers, but Schulman said it can really apply to anyone who has the attitude of being in the groove, or has great timing and communication skills; basically someone who can “jam” successfully with others.

Ultimately, Schulman hopes his audiences leave his sessions with a better understanding that we all have the power within us to shift into a gratitude mindset.

“Although we cannot control what happens to us, we always have control — no matter what — of our attitudes about what happens to us. Your attitude is your point of view; and where you’re looking from really determines what you see,” he said.
