Latest tower set to be a star
The next instalment in The Star Gold Coast’s string of luxury hotels is expected to be on the way up next year
THE development of a fourth hotel in the multibillion-dollar transformation of the Star Gold Coast at Broadbeach Island has been fast tracked following strong early success of the project.
Work is expected to start a year earlier than initially planned on the tower, which will be south of the Dorsett hotel and apartments building that is already under construction.
Pre-sales of apartments in the new building have already kicked off with construction work now anticipated to start in 2020.
The tower will include a five-star hotel, with 210 hotel rooms, 457 residential apartments, lagoon pools, restaurants and bars. Star Entertainment Group chief executive Matt Bekier said the earlier construction timeline was the next step in delivering on the master plan for the site.
“If our masterplan is rolled out in full — and there is so much more we would like to deliver — The Star Gold Coast will be the equal of the finest integrated resorts in the world and complement our $3.6 billion project at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane,” said Mr Bekier.
The new five-star hotel would complement the existing The Star Grand Hotel, The Darling hotel and the first Dorsett hotel in Australia. Mr Bekier said the fast tracking of the fourth hotel, showed that the group was committed to the Gold Coast region and delivering on its vision for the site.
“Together with our partners, Chow Tai Fook and Far East Consortium, we are delivering a world-class global tourism and entertainment destination of which this region can be proud,” he said.
Mr Bekier said the project had already changed the Broadbeach landscape.
“Our recent investments have delivered some of the best restaurants and night-life facilities in this state — from Kiyomi and Cucina Vivo on the dining side to the increasingly popular Nineteen at The Star restaurant and lounge bar, which has just celebrated its first birthday,” he said.
Work on the site to date includes the refurbishment of The Star Grand’s 596 hotel rooms, the opening of a new luxury 56-suite hotel, The Darling, as well as 12 new food and beverage outlets, a new day spa, fitness centre and refreshed conference facilities in the Event Centre. And Mr Bekier promised there was more to come for The Star Gold Coast.
Once construction of the Dorsett hotel and apartment tower was finished, The Star planned to add further food and beverage outlets.
A dining avenue will link The Star Grand complex to the Dorsett hotel tower, with the developer hoping to include a premium Asian restaurant with live seafood and private dining facilities, as well as two other Asian restaurants.
Mr Bekier also revealed plans for a new steak and seafood grill house and a designer sweet bar. Images are artist impressions for illustrative purposes only. GOLDCOASTBULLETIN.COM.AU REAL ESTATE SATURDAY JUNE 8 2019
