Sellers’ sweet deal

There aren’t many people who can say they sold their home for double the amount they paid for it

A GOLD Coast family has pocketed an extra $1.775 million following the sale of their Paradise Waters home — a hefty profit that eclipses the amount they paid for it five years ago.

The waterfront house at 17 Seafarer Court officially changed hands for $3.1 million last week. Property records show that is more than double the $1.325 million the vendors paid for it in 2014.

Surfers Paradise First National Real Estate agent Russell Rollington, who marketed the property with Bob Rollington, said an extensive renovation was responsible for its increased value.

“The vendors pretty much knocked it down and left the slab and one wall then rebuilt everything else,” he said. “They did plan on living there.” He said the renovation took about 18 months but the vendors never got a chance to enjoy the fruits of their labour because they decided to move interstate.

A Brisbane family looking to relocate to the Gold Coast for its enviable lifestyle snapped up the four-bedroom home, but not without a fight.

Mr Rollington said another interested party — locals looking to upgrade — who had inspected the property on the same day as the Brisbane family also put in an offer.

“The buyers ended up fighting to get their hands on it,” he said.

“During the whole campaign, we probably had about 200 groups through.

“We had a lot of interest in it because it’s very neutral.”

A white palette, floor-to-ceiling windows, vaulted ceilings, travertine tiles and Italian natural stone finishes characterise the home.

Its outdoor entertainment area overlooks the skyline while a pool and pontoon are added luxuries.
