Oh, what a sight

Perched at the top of a mountain stands a renovated home with stylish interiors that enhance its impressive surrounds

- WORDS MIKAELA DAY

FEEL on top of the world at this Bonogin address, which is nestled among the rolling mountains and has postcard perfect views of the Gold Coast skyline and beyond.

The house has had a stylish and contemporary makeover to transform it into a modern family haven.

High ceilings and large expanses of glass underpin the floorplan to showcase the undulating hills, which form the backdrop of the main living areas.

The entry makes a grand statement with a chandelier and leads directly to the open-plan kitchen, living and dining zone.

The kitchen serves up high-end appliances, a walk-in pantry and waterfall island bench that doubles as a breakfast bar.

The main living area sits under a cobblestone feature wall and sliding glass doors lead to the covered entertainment veranda. Two bedrooms are on either side of the entry hallway while a lounge room and the luxuriously appointed main bedroom are on the western side of the house.

The parents’ retreat features a walk-in wardrobe, glamorous open ensuite with a freestanding bath, access to the deck and city skyline views.

At the opposite end of the house are two further bedrooms, a bathroom, laundry and secondary living zone with a kitchen. The self-contained living space has a private entry and provides options for extended family and other dual-living arrangements.

The ground floor is a functional space with a laundry, bedroom, bathroom and multipurpose garage, which also features a bar, projector screen, workshop and storage.

Also off this area are multiple outdoor entertainment areas including a sun deck, patio and covered poolside veranda, which leads to an observation area with a fire pit.

Owner James Humphries, who has lived in the property with his wife and daughter for the past two years, spent 18 months transforming it. “Inspired by the location and outlook of the property this really was a passion project,” he said.

“With a background in design and development we have resculpted the property over the last 18 months to accommodate extended family and fulfil our wonderful Gold Coast lifestyle. I knew combining coastal and rolling mountain views was rare this close to the city.”

Mr Humphries said nothing was left untouched in their mission to create a modern, open-home that “encompasses the Gold Coast and Hinterland from all angles”.

“The best part about renovating is being able to create a modern family home with your own vision and lifestyle in mind,” he said. “Changing family circumstances however have been the decider in this reluctant sale.

“We are very excited for the new owners to be able to enjoy this unique home on top of the Gold Coast.”
