Wet, sandy feet are welcome inside this Currumbin abode that’s purpose-built for a beach-loving family

`TAKING in the view over Elephant Rock and Currumbin Beach, you get the sense that an endless summer is entirely possible in this modern Currumbin house.

A fuss-free connection between beach and home was the vision guiding Andrew Pollard when he designed the Pacific Pde property alongside wife Francesca.

Stackable windows and doors showcase Pacific Ocean panoramas at every turn, while the wooden staircase connecting the home’s two core pavilions is a replica of the stairs leading down to Currumbin Alley.

“We wanted to replicate that idea of walking down the stairs and straight onto the sand,” Mr Pollard said.

Constructed over three levels, the house is purpose-built for a beach-loving family — and their guests.

There’s a level for the kids, one for the parents, and one for guests where the bed folds away against the wall transforming the space into a quite retreat.

“It’s a lovely space to read a book or sneak in a quick nap where the kids won’t find you,” said Mrs Pollard.

The 1500sq m property also boasts a charming two-bedroom guest house with separate entry, making it suitable for Airbnb.

Functional choices such as granite benchtops, marine-grade plywood cabinetry and no-mow grass keep maintenance to a minimum, while polished concrete flooring makes mopping up after sandy feet a breeze.

“We have four kids and fully expect them to walk in the door wet and sandy with their surfboards — the house is made for it,” Mrs Pollard said.

“You can — and we have — hose down the floors if you need to.”

All of those watercraft toys can be safely stowed away in the 20ft shipping container built in beneath the house.

In the triple garage you’ll find a dumbwaiter with 300kg capacity to save lugging groceries by hand to the upper levels.

The home’s practical features do nothing to detract from the sense of luxury, both inside and out.

Well before you catch the view, the scale of the open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen area delivers that “wow” factor.

The gourmet kitchen features a granite island, induction cooktop, three ovens and a butler’s pantry, while the wood fireplace and blackbutt timber flooring create a cosy space in cooler months.

Oversized windows offer a magical ocean vista from the master bedroom and the outdoor shower in the ensuite will have you seeing stars.

After four memorable years lapping up the beachside life, parting will be sweet sorrow for the Pollards who are working towards a “tree change”.

“We’ve had this idea about living on a farm for a while and we just can’t shake it,” Mrs Pollard said.
