Value in the bush

A PROMINENT Gold Coast surgeon has snapped up a private family retreat in the Gold Coast Hinterland in one of the strongest sales the area has seen this year.

Dr Zackariah Clement, a specialist at John Flynn Private Hospital, has signed a contract for $1.52 million on a stylish four bedroom house at 18 Forest Ridge Dr, Bonogin.

Surrounded by native bushland, the modern home sits on .43ha and features polished concrete floors and glass sliding doors which open onto lush landscaped gardens and a pool.

Selling agent Nicole Carter, of McGrath Surfers Paradise, said the showstopping house had attracted plenty of interest.

“It is a stunning property, one of the best I’ve sold in this area,” she said.

Ms Carter said the sought-after pocket of Mudgeeraba Forest had held its value.

“Over the last couple of years in Mudgeeraba Forest there have been some very good sales — anywhere from $1.3 million up to $2.1 million,” she said. “Families are looking for a high end home in a bush setting that’s close to some of the best private schools.” Somerset College, King’s Christian College and Hillcrest Christian College are all close by.

A fresh sales push is now underway on a landmark estate on Tamborine Mountain which has played host to tennis stars, opera concerts and open garden events. The 3.22ha lot at 82 Wongawallan Rd is on the market for only the second time in 40 years, with an asking price of $3.788 million.

Known as Jarnac, the plot was originally owned by Gilbert Donnay, whose family company made Donnay tennis racquets.

Current owner Roger Jackson has spent 10 years regenerating the rainforest gardens and adorning the main residence with antique art and furnishings.
