Perfectly formed and executed

An award-winning design with a high level of livability makes this luxury home in a prestigious estate an opportunity not to be missed

STEVE Dover has lived at his fair share of salubrious addresses during his 21 years on the Coast – Hedges Avenue, Monaco Street, the Liberty building in Main Beach and Clear Island Waters among them.

Yet he counts the past 12 months spent living in the exclusive Jabiru Estate in Mudgeeraba as being the best.

“I like the acreage,” Steve said. “It’s a really nice estate, it’s two minutes to Somerset College, and four minutes to Robina. It has easy access to the motorway and airport and it’s seven minutes to my office. Perfect.”

Steve, who heads eMoney, a mortgage bank that sponsors the Gold Coast Titans rugby league club, said he missed out on a couple of other homes he had his eye on in the estate when 14 Sandyoke Court came on the market.

“Not wanting to miss out again, I grabbed this one,” he said.

As large as the house is, Steve said he needed a couple more bedrooms to accommodate frequent visits from extended family and friends.

“Four bedrooms was OK for me and my two boys, but my mother comes down and my cousin and her two sons often stay over, and if one of my boys brings their friends, well, you see what I mean,” Steve said.

“I had some initial architectural plans done and worked out that we could put in two more bedrooms and a games room within the same floor plan, and without needing DA approval.”

But the extension never eventuated after a neighbouring property that suited his needs to a tee came on the market (Steve rode his lawn mower to the inspection). It eliminated the need to do a renovation and is the only reason why he decided to sell.

Not that 14 Sandyoke falls short in any way, especially when it comes to size, floor plan and special features.

Designed by BDA Architecture and master built by Mark Underwood, it won the 2017 MBQLD Gold Coast award for a residential build and the Ron McMaster Memorial Award for Excellence in Craftsmanship.

Nestled on almost two acres, the house has more than 126sq m under roof, a highlight of which is the indoor-outdoor back terrace, which houses a 25m heated lap pool surrounded by immense decorative wroughtiron, netted screens.

“As well as the location, it’s the thing I really love about the house. When you open up those shutters the views are spectacular, but equally when they’re shut you are protected from the elements. There’s a barbecue area in there and you can basically use the space all year round,” Steve said.

In his time at the house Steve levelled an unusable section of the yard to add a lawn, basketball court and soccer pitch where he and his two boys also spend a lot of time.

“I love the house and would have happily stayed here if the other place that I don’t have to reno hadn’t had come up,” Steve said.
