Absolute-ly extraordinary

LOVERS of the bold and progressive will fall head over heels for Tallebudgera’s dark horse - a moody, broody, mysterious abode called Absolute.

A contemporary design masterpiece, the residence features the bold contrast of PGH titanium metallic black bricks and black mortar together with a cedar facade to create a statement home that’s equal parts practical and alluring.

Designed to impress by vendors Jason and Kate Cantrell, this powerhouse pair know how to put a colour palette together having built and sold more than 10 properties together.

The Cantrells settled on their purchase of an 8000sq m parcel of vacant land in June 2020 and built two houses after subdividing the semi-rural block.

Mr Cantrell is a builder, and the couple have three children, 10-year-old twins, Liam and Callum, and daughter, Daphne, 7.

The family will retain ownership of one of the properties, known as the white house, while the new house, a contemporary sixbedroom, four-bathroom dual-living estate dubbed ‘Absolute’ goes under the hammer on March 8.

“We were keen to go bold when designing this home,” Mrs Cantrell said.

“The polished concrete flooring and three-metre-high ceilings throughout create a sense of grandeur while the wide-span glass windows are positioned perfectly to make the most of the incredible sunsets over the Valley ridge.

“The setting sun silhouettes the aged gums that stand in the lower half of the block in the most magical way every evening.”

Offering the gift of space, Absolute is equipped with two dwellings, a main family residence and a smaller second home both of which skirt a central entertainment pad complete with a heated pool, an outdoor hot shower, and a traditional brick fireplace.

Not only is this the perfect place to spend time dipping in and out of the pool or soaking up the Gold Coast sun on the silver Travertine tiles but this area is also positioned to enjoy the expansive western views where your eyes are taken beyond to the lush Hinterland landscape.

“Absolute’s fully landscaped gardens include all Australian natives that change through the seasons, attracting local bird life and creating a peaceful environment to enjoy all that nature has to offer,” Mrs Cantrell said.

“There is plenty of usable land for the children and dogs to enjoy on the lower half of the block too and we had plans for a treehouse, flying fox, and a fire pit.”

The Cantrells know that practicality rules when it comes to smooth runnings within the family home.

With this in mind, the home flows between three large living areas, giving everyone in the family the space they need to recharge and relax while a bespoke galley-style kitchen featuring a butler’s pantry and two Siemens studioLine ovens.

“We wanted an ultra-modern kitchen with black cabinetry but with black comes the issue of tiny hands and fingerprints,” Mrs Cantrell said.

The property is marketed by Katrina Walsh, of Harcourts Coastal.

“Absolute is unapologetically bold and daring with its dark facade and carefully curated design features which make the property look and feel like it’s been lifted straight from a magazine editorial,” Ms Walsh said.

“Absolute is far from ordinary.”
