Opportunity knocking for bargain-hunting shoppers

- SALLY COATES

FINDING the ultimate op shop bargain can be a challenge but rewards are there for those who set their minds to it.

With National Op Shop Week starting tomorrow, there are plenty of stores on the Coast for the adventurous to try their luck.

With a mission of putting together a stylish outfit, the search began at Lifeline Warehouse in Molendinar.

Rummaging through the racks there were plenty of quality labels – Witchery, Sass and Bide, Sportsgirl – under $10.

There were handbags for a few bucks each and mountains of accessories anywhere from 50 to $3, and floods of people routinely exclaiming, “Look, this is only five bucks!”

The staff picked out a few bargain outfits of their choosing, including a full gym kit complete with Nikes – again at just a fraction of full retail price and which looked near, if not totally, new.

They selected a white lace top which wouldn’t look out of place at the races or on a wedding guest and was an absolute bargain at $4.

It was paired with a highwaisted red skirt which would have been at least a decade old but was still immaculate, and some aqua accessories.

The outfit from head to toe cost $27 and could have easily been worn to a business lunch or a girls’ day out and nobody would even suspect the whole thing cost less than the lunch itself.

Whether you need a sequined handbag or a toaster, op shops often have it, so it’s well worth giving them a crack.

Most importantly, op shops support some of the most noble causes in our country, helping people and animals.
