Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin

Job offer would be sweet music

- LEA EMERY

BRIANA Woodward says the pressure of finding job is intensifying as the clock ticks down on her university studies.

The 23-year-old is just weeks away from handing in the final assignment for her Bachelor of Journalism and is concerned about the tight jobs market.

“Everyone is madly trying to scramble to find work,” she said.

The Ashmore woman wants to be a music journalist but knows those jobs are scarce.

She is currently interning at the Gold Coast Bulletin to gain experience in the media industry.

Her duties this week have included interviewing musicians for the newspaper’s weekly entertainment magazine.

As part of its 5000 jobs campaign the Bulletin’s parent company News Corp has announced it will offer 250 internships for young workers.

“I’m nervous, especially because I haven’t had fulltime work before,” Ms Woodward said.

“I’m excited to start earning some money but it’s definitely a daunting process.”

Ms Woodward said she hoped her internship would give her an advantage when applying for jobs.

Currently Ms Woodward works one day a week to help pay the bills.
