IT SHOULD BE FERRY GOOD

A ferry run between Couran Cove lifestyle resort and Broadwater Parklands is edging closer according to the site manager

THE new manager behind a planned $100 million revival of Couran Cove’s resort and village is advancing ambitious passenger ferry plans.

Greg Rekers, the managing director of Eureka Group which took over Couran Cove in December, said he has narrowed it down to two ferry vessels he’s weighing up for purchase.

The ferry will provide passenger services from Couran Cove on the northern Gold Coast down the Nerang River to drop-offs and pickups at Broadwater Parklands.

Mr Rekers told Coast Weekend once it started operating he envisaged it would run from Couran Cove and back at least twice a day, seven days a week.

“In peak periods it might be four times a day,” he said.

“I have got two boats I’m looking at – I could pick either one of them.”

Mr Rekers said whichever ferry Eureka ended up purchasing for the resort would be moored at Couran Cove’s marina and just doing brief stops at Broadwater Parklands for pick-ups and drop-offs.

He was keen on a ferry capacity of 80-plus passengers. The addition of a ferry is part of ambitious redevelopment plans for the resort and residential lifestyle visit, revealed in the Bulletin last week.

Development plans include building 190 new cabins and a tavern plus upgrades of the pool, sport amenities, gardens and a network of bike paths and walking tracks.

Meanwhile, the resort, it’s marina and waterfront restaurant continued to welcome guests and bookings while work was being done.

Mr Rekers said small conference bookings and weddings were solid for the next few months.
