Hughesy’s sweet Coast family visit

-

DON’T be surprised if you find yourself standing in a theme park queue next to a frazzled-looking Melbourne comedian being made the butt of his family’s jokes.

Radio and TV presenter Dave Hughes has arrived on the Coast to “do the school holiday thing” with his family and play a special one-off performance of his acclaimed stand-up show, Sweet, in Jupiters Theatre tonight.

“My wife tells me I should be worried about being overexposed but any opportunity I have to get in front of an audience, I take it,” he said.

The Australia’s Got Talent host said his wife Holly booked the couple and their three children – son Rafferty, 7, and daughters, Sadie, 5, and Tess, 3 – a “very Gold Coast’’ holiday to coincide with his show.

While he’s the king of comedy on the stage, offstage it’s a different story.

“The girls get together and they just tease me and they think they’re the funniest people in the world,” Hughes said.

The self-confessed AFL tragic is also a big fan of one of our city’s leading sports identities – Gold Coast Suns chairman Tony Cochrane.

“Your chairman’s a real character. There’s no doubt about that,” Hughes said.
