IF I could head out to Funky Town, it’d be a ripper of a night.

So it will be tonight when Aussie ’80s pop rock bands 1927 and Pseudo Echo play at Twin Towns, giving Xgens an opportunity to head back to the good old days.

When 1927 released their album ...ish in 1988, it become the highestselling debut release by an Australian artist. It had six charted singles, including If I Could and That’s When I Think of You.

It became a five times platinumselling album and this weekend, the current 1927 line-up still fronted by Erik Weideman, will sing the album in its entirety including Compulsory Hero, To Love Me, Scars, and Don’t Forget Me.

Also appearing tonight will be Pseudo Echo, celebrating the 30-year anniversary of Funky Town which sat at No.1 on the Australian charts for 12 weeks from December 1986.

Fans still have a beat in their hearts for the band and lead vocalist Brian Canham, who formed the band in 1982 with his school friend Pierre Gigliotti.

With their electronic sound, the “Pseuds” had a rapid climb to success in 1984 which saw them become the second biggest band in Australia after INXS for a while, with their album Autumnal Park and the singles Listening and A Beat for You.

Their second album Love an Adventure produced chart-toppers Don’t Go and Living in a Dream.

1927 and Pseudo Echo play Twin Towns tonight at 8.30pm. Tickets $45, twintowns.com.au
