LUXURY GOING FOR A SONG

AMT Marine owner and luxury boat broker Andy Taylor has a watertight deal for you — this Whitehaven stock boat at a knockdown price

-

What’s in the harbour?

This Whitehaven 6000 Coupe. We’re a specialist Whitehaven dealer and it’s been our demonstrator boat here at Marina Mirage. But we have about $9 million worth of boats arriving here in the next five weeks and another stock boat being built so this one is for sale.

What’s it worth?

It is fully optioned and worth $2.42 million. But there is the potential to save hundreds of thousands. It has a kingsize midship stateroom with ensuite, a forward VIP guest cabin double and a guest cabin with bunks. Features include a stainless steel cockpit barbecue, a Vintec wine fridge, sunroof, electronic rear awning and joystick yacht controller. It is built for luxury and can go as far north as you want – it has 5500 litres of fuel on board so she’s a long-range cruise and capable of 28 knots.

How does it handle?

I brought it up here from Sydney originally three months ago. It is probably the best offshore 60ft boat I have ever been on. It is extremely dry, the water doesn’t come over the bow when you go through big waves, it’s extremely stable, having a 17ft, 6in beam. We took our time, my dad came with us and we did it over three days. We stopped along the way at Port Stephens and Yamba before getting home.

One of the perks of the job?

It’s unreal. You do have to know what you are doing but it’s a lot of fun transporting these things. If someone asks me to do it, I don’t really tend to say no to it. It’s good to do but I only do it when I have the time.

How did you get into boating and broking?

I was living in Sydney and I was doing excavation domestically, under houses and driveways. I wanted to get into the Gold Coast and get into boats, having grown up around it. I think I had my first boat when I was seven. It was a little tinny in Sydney. Eight years ago I made the move to the Gold Coast, having rung a mate’s dad and got into it. But growing up I always had boats, we had ski boats. I once owned a property on the river with a few mates and we would get out on the water every weekend.

So you’re into it, love your job?

I think it’s an obsession rather than a passion for me. It’s more extreme.

What do you love most about being on the water?

For me it really comes down to hanging out on a boat or a bunch of boats with your mates, rafting up, getting together and having a few beers.
