Tony stays at home for the kids

- DOOMBEN

THE excitement of watching the first of his stable’s new season two-year-olds race at Doomben today will keep premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan at home, even though he has a Group 1 runner at Randwick.

The Doomben meeting features Queensland’s first metropolitan races for juveniles this season, a few hours before the Gollan-trained Amexed runs in the Metropolitan Handicap in Sydney.

“I would normally be wherever I had a Group 1 runner if it wasn’t for the two-year-olds racing at Doomben,” Gollan said.

“It’s exciting to see what they can do.”

The Gollan-trained Our Mystify ($4.60) runs in the 1050m race for fillies while Never In Doubt and Unlikely Story run in the colts and geldings division.

The Liam Birchley-trained Real Princess ($5.80) is one of two horses in either division with race experience, having finished second to Pure Luck at Toowoomba last Saturday in the state’s first juvenile race.

The Kevin Kemp-trained Fairy Wings, also an acceptor for Doomben, ran sixth in the same race.

“Our Mystify is a nice filly and is drawn well in barrier two, which should help her get around Doomben,” Gollan said.

The Steven O’Dea-trained Dream Kisses, who has drawn barrier nine in the 10-horse field, was $4 favourite with UBET last night.

UBET has rated Unlikely Story ahead of stablemate Never In Doubt in the male division with the pair at $2.90 and $4 respectively.
