Dunn sees bright future for improving Sunny Fame

- TOM BOSWELL GOLD COAST

TRAINER Matthew Dunn says Sunny Fame’s vast improvement could potentially lead to a victory in a metropolitan race if all goes to plan on the Gold Coast today.

Sunny Fame was winless from his first four starts and the results were actually worsening with each run before the four-year-old arrived at Dunn’s stables in Murwil- lumbah in August. But Sunny Fame instantly found a new gear and after managing third in a trial, he mirrored the result in his first run in a race under Dunn’s care on the Gold Coast last month.

Sunny Fame won his first race by two lengths in a Maiden Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast on September 17 and Dunn was confident the gelding could do it again in today’s ToxFree Waste Management Class 1 (1400m).

“He is probably looking to go to 1400m now. I’ve only had him for two starts and he probably should have won his first start for me and was dominant in his last start,” Dunn said.

“The further he goes the better he will get.”

Dunn said Sunny Fame, a four-year-old by Manhattan Rain, could find success beyond 1800m in town.

“He will probably get 1800m and further and if he can achieve that then he can probably win a race in the city,” Dunn said.

“If he can run a little further he can certainly win at least a midweek race in town and maybe a Saturday.

“He has got very good strength. He is a lovely big strong type of horse and it carries him a long way.”

Sunny Fame’s chances at the Gold Coast today have taken a boost with trainer Andrew Williamson likely to scratch Duke De Vega from the race in favour of a run at the Sunshine Coast meeting tomorrow.
