Mare at her peak

TRAINER Chris Waller says his champion mare is at the peak of her form and fitness.

“I don’t think it matters what you do with a horse like Winx,’’ Waller said. “She is the ultimate athlete and steps up to whatever you ask her to do.’’

Waller revealed Winx is right on her “fighting weight” for her Cox Plate defence.

“Winx was 504kg when she won the Cox Plate last year, then when she started winning last preparation (autumn) she was 518kg and she is the same weight now,’’ he said.

Although Winx is a bigger and stronger mare this spring, she doesn’t have the imposing physical presence of the Godolphin goliath, Hartnell.
