Arnold set for start with Roar

-

STAR goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold is returning home to Queensland to continue her W-League career with the Brisbane Roar.

The 22-year-old, born on the Gold Coast, said it would be great to be back playing soccer in her home state after a W-League career that began with Perth Glory in 2011.

Arnold was yesterday confirmed as a member of the Roar squad preparing for the first W-League fixture of the season, against Sydney on November 5.

“As a Queenslander, it’s an honour to sign for the Brisbane Roar Football Club,” she said.

“I’m really excited about the new W-League season and can’t wait to play Sydney on November 5.”

Despite her tender years, Arnold has already played eight times for the Australian under-20s and has completed 11 games with the Matildas.

She was in the Australian squad for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games and will join fellow national representatives Katrina Gorry and captain Clare Polkinghorne who both re-signed with the Roar.

Arnold’s travels have taken her to Perth Glory (10 games in 2011-12), Canberra United (10 games), Western Sydney (three games) and 22 back again with Perth Glory from 2014.

Arnold began her career as a Coast junior with Burleigh Heads, then Robina City, before completing her education in the Palm Beach-Currumbin High soccer program.
