Dogged Herbert in lead
LUCAS Herbert was an 80-1 bolter when he started the Queensland Open at longer odds than his beloved Western Bulldogs to pull off their AFL fairytale.
A second straight round of 68 has thrust the cavalier Victorian youngster into the joint lead on his own hunt for a trophy breakthrough.
Super-slick greens and yesterday’s freshening breeze stymied any pro going lower than four-under-par at the halfway stage at Brisbane Golf Club.
Herbert and former state amateur teammate Brett Coletta (67-69) are the 20-yearold tyros showing the way.
Herbert is an occasional golfing partner for Bulldogs forward Jake Stringer and wants to get the Bulldogs premiership cartoon by the Herald Sun’s Mark Knight embroidered on his golf bag.
