Old tensions ready to explode

- TERRY WILSON KOOKABURRA CUP

NORTHERN clubs Loganholme and Alberton will resurrect a long-time rivalry when they clash in a Kookaburra Cup match at Tansey Park today.

It has been six years since the sides played against each other – back in the days of the GSP Cup – but the last time they played at Tansey Park was in the latter stages of the 2008-09 season.

And for at least five players it will be quite the walk down memory lane.

“I can clearly remember the last time I played at Tansey Park because we had a tie,” Alberton skipper Craig Mitchell said.

“We scored 134 each and it cost Loganholme a place in the finals and we got in.”

The Loganholme side that day included Queensland reps Allan Rowe and Derek Tate who were both run out in a mad final-over scamper for victory.

Rowe also remembers: “We needed three off the last over and didn’t get them. I was run out and Derek was still in but he got run out as well.”

Mitchell and current Alberton teammates Corey Galloway, Mitch Nolan and Shane Connors all played in that game, as did Ricky Clark who was with Alberton that day but who is now with Loganholme.

Loganholme dropped out of the GSP Cup after the 2010-11 season but were reinstated to the now Kookaburra Cup for this year.
