Grant’s rage ‘led to split’

- DWAYNE GRANT AND JACK HARBOUR

PUTTING a rock in a hard place may seem like a counter-productive oductive way to unwind after a long day, but it is Pete Dinham’s escape.

The businessman and art- ist uses the coastline as his s canvas to create beautifulul and gravity-defying art by balancing rocks of all shapes pes and sizes to make arches or upright stacks.

He has been doing rock art for a year, since his wife Jedda encouraged couraged him to start meditating when hen they moved closer to the beach at Hastings Point.

“I struggled to switch off and zone out,” said Mr Dinham, 52. “But then I started playing around with rocks.

“It is a great way to relax after ra a long and stressful day.”

Mr Dinham said his rock art sculptures take between five minutes and an hour to build depending on how stressed he is.

“Sometimes it takes me a while to get in the zone.,” he said.

Social media is believed to be one of the reasons why rock art sculptures are popping up more often on local beaches.

Mr Dinham also dabbles in other art including sand murals.

Now his family does not even know of his movements.

The Bulletin can reveal Ms Keating left for her native Canada last month soon after Hackett suffered facial injuries from an altercation with his brother, Craig.

Friends of the pair are upset at reports that Hackett’s recent breakup with the lawyer caused the former Olympian’s meltdown this week.

“The truth is Grant’s volatility led to the breakup, not the other way round,” one said.

“Everyone’s saying ‘Poor Grant’ and he obviously needs help, but Maggie isn’t the cause of his problems. He’s been struggling for ages.

“Maggie’s overwhelmed by everything that’s happened this week.”

Hackett deleted photos of Ms Keating from his Instagram account after she headed overseas. A friend of the Olympic gold medallist said he had become increasingly reclusive.

“He had kind of fallen off the radar,” they said. “We haven’t heard much of him since Christmas.”

Another said: “Everyone’s been worried about him but no one wants to raise the issue because of how he might react.”

Hackett’s mother, Margaret, yesterday told the Bulletin she had little contact with her son.

“I’ve just had a couple of little messages,” she said. “I don’t really know any more so it’s pretty hard at the moment. It’s just been terrible. If he wants us we’re here, that’s how it goes.”

Mrs Hackett confirmed she was with her boys the night Grant suffered facial injuries, but would not comment further.

The Bulletin yesterday revealed Hackett was involved in an incident with a woman on the night of Olympic champion Michael Phelps’ wedding reception on New Year’s Eve.

Security at the hotel in Phoenix, Arizona, where Hackett was staying, had to “restrain” him.

After pleas from friends to help him on his return to the Gold Coast, his brother, Craig, and mother went to his house for an intervention.

After Grant got angry, Craig is alleged to have retaliated, hitting his brother.

Hackett was treated in hospital with a bruised eye and fractures to the jaw. The incident led to a court order being taken out against Hackett.

On Thursday morning, Hackett posted a picture online of his injuries, saying that his brother “beat the shit out of me”. “Everyone knows he is an angry man.”

Hackett then disappeared for most of the day, sparking concerns from his family, before being found in Surfers Paradise. He laid low yesterday.
