FORMER ironwoman Hayley Bateup is expecting a second child with long-term partner April Zekulich.

The energetic mum told the Bulletin the little bub, a brother or sister for 19month-old Baxter, was due on August 21.

“It will be 14 weeks on Sunday,” Hayley said.

“April and I only ever wanted one child but we’ve loved being with Baxter. He really enjoys coming to Body Blitz and being with other kids which made us realise how good it would be for him to have a sibling.”

The young family – mums Hayley and April, Baxter and their three dogs, Juanita-Rose, Teea and Stevie-Nix – will be “complete” with the arrival of their second baby.

“Two is definitely going to be the magic number for us,” Hayley said.

“We’re so excited about having a little friend for Baxter ... I’ve done quite a lot in my life but it’s a selfish life when you’re an athlete. This is the first time in my life that somebody has come before my sport and it’s been the most amazing thing.”

The three-time Coolangatta Gold champion met April at the Northcliffe Surf Club almost 10 years ago.

In 2015, they conceived little Baxter on their second attempt with IVF.

“We had to get a donor and even though we thought we only wanted one child, we bought two lots (of sperm) just in case,” Hayley said. “We’re so lucky we did. “It’s going to be about a two-year age gap.”

Hayley said the duo had settled into parenthood at their Coolangatta home. “We parent the same way and we don’t have any arguments. I think that’s the benefit of having two mums. Women get things done. “Baxter has a great little personality. He’s very active, but also loves reading books. “At the moment I’m working fulltime as a firefighter and April takes a lot of Body Blitz classes so my parents also help out a lot w with Baxter.” Only a few close f family members and f friends have been told t the news. Hayley said they p planned to deliver at Pindara Private Hospital before heading to Palazzo Versace f for two nights as part o of the Palazzo Platinum Package available to new parents for $550.
