Kimmince free to play in decider

- TERRY WILSON BRISBANE PREMIER WOMEN

STAR all-rounder Delissa Kimmince has been given the nod to spearhead the Gold Coast Dolphins women in their bid to break a frustrating premiership drought.

At one stage this week former Southern Stars representative Kimmince looked in danger of missing the Brisbane Premier Grade grand final against Sandgate-Redcliffe at Allan Border Field in Brisbane tomorrow.

Kimmince is contracted to the Brisbane Lions AFLW club who are playing against GWS Giants today. But the news was all good for the Dolphins.

“I’ve been named as an emergency for the Lions so at this stage I would be playing in the cricket final,” Kimmince said.

“Which is great because we owe Sandgate-Redcliffe one.

“In my days with the Dolphins we’ve been there four times (the grand final) but we haven’t made it over the line.

“We owe it to Garry (coach Garry Lovett) more than anything because he puts in so much time with us.”

The Dolphins have not had a good record against Sandgate this season.

They have one tie and three losses in regular season matches and also lost to the Gators in the T20 final a fortnight ago.

Sandgate have five Brisbane Heat reps in their side, the Dolphins two, but the latter go into the decider in great form after a score of 3-331 last round and with Kimmince riding on the back of a superb knock of 169 not out.

Lovett is confident the Dolphins can break their grand final curse.

“This year we have Delissa carrying form, Norma (PNG rep Norma Ovasaru) is in form, so is Sammy-Jo Johnson and Abigail Godfrey – they’re all just starting to peak at the right time of the year,” Lovett said. “And so are some of the younger girls.”
