No regrets as Costa backs split with Golden girl

- TOM BOSWELL GOLDEN SLIPPER

GOLD Coast trainer Michael Costa hasn’t lost any sleep as he prepares to watch Golden Slipper chance She Will Reign run in the world’s richest twoyear-old race.

Costa initially trained the filly, a $5.50 chance in the Slipper today, in Sydney but had to relinquish her when he de- cided to shift to the Gold Coast last year.

The 28-year-old said it made his decision hard considering how a Golden Slipper win would promote his career.

But Costa still feels he has contributed to She Will Reign’s success and said he was comfortable with his decision to move to Queensland.

“There is no doubt about it, you would love to be still a part of the journey but I’m actually really excited – I hope she runs well and wins,” Costa said.

“I still feel like I’m majorly a part of it. I’ve been a part of the journey, which has been good.

“I’m really playing the long game here. I’m still young and I have time on my side.

“I have been able to select some very good yearlings over the last couple of years which have proven to be some of the best in the country.

“It is a momentum game and if you had one of the favourites in the Slipper in the stable it does speed things up a bit.

“But I have confidence that we are doing everything right in the stable and in time we will find another special one – hopefully we have got one already.”

She Will Reign, for a long time the Slipper favourite, has recorded three wins and a second under the care of Sydney trainer Gary Portelli.
