Dragicevic leaves to join Knights’ crusade
FORWARD Daniel Dragicevic is poised for a surprise move from Gold Coast City to play GC Premier League with the Knights.
The gifted 28-year-old winger confirmed his interest in linking with the Knights and has been given the go-ahead by his former NPL Queens- land club. Now it remains to be seen when Dragicevic will play in the red and white because there are certain restrictions regarding players who hold professional contracts with other clubs, as is the case with him and City.
“I don’t really want to comment at this stage but I can say I want to join the Knights,” Dragicevic said.
Gold Coast City coach Grae Piddick said his club had given the nod for Dragicevic to leave. “We signed the release form a few days ago,” Piddick said.
It was not clear whether Dragicevic was going to be cleared in time to play for the Knights in a PL match against premiers Surfers Paradise at the Croatian Sports Centre last night.
Originally from Melbourne, Dragicevic was a member of then Palm Beach Sharks’ triumphant march to an NPL Queensland double and a place in the quarter-finals of the Westfield FFA Cup.
He left for Sydney Olympic in 2015 but was back with City in 2016, then had been in a battle for starting time with City this year.
“I’m disappointed that he doesn’t want to hang around and fight for his spot after only a couple of matches,” Piddick admitted.
“But I’m grateful for all his efforts in the years that he played for us.”
While Surfers and the Knights opened Round 3 of the Premier League last night, there are three fixtures today.
Palm Beach face a danger road trip to Murwillumbah to play the Warning at Jim Devine Field (4pm), Coomera host Burleigh Heads at Viney Park (4pm) and Broadbeach United take on Magic United at Nikiforides Park (5pm).
