Jailhouse romp claim

Prison officer in alleged tryst with violent inmate

- JANET FIFE-YEOMANS

FURIOUS prison officers have branded a colleague being investigated over an illicit relationship with an inmate as a “deadset loser”.

The female guard was marched from Mid North Coast Correctional Centre in Kempsey last month and is being investigated for a relationship with a violent inmate described as a “brute” who is awaiting trial on a string of domestic violence-related offences.

It is just the latest behind bars tryst at the jail (pictured).

It is the same prison where a 31-year-old prison officer was investigated for an illicit relationship with cowardly one- punch killer Kieran Loveridge two years ago.

Loveridge, jailed for fatally punching Thomas Kelly in Sydney’s Kings Cross in 2012, was subsequently moved to Goulburn’s Supermax jail for disciplinary reasons.

As the latest in a string of people caught having illicit relationships, the woman at the middle of the current Kempsey scandal has disgusted other fe- male officers. “Makes it bad for all officers and especially women,” one prison officer said on Facebook.

Another said: “Would like to comment, but not allowed ... Only thing I can say is I am disgusted, once again, taking our name as dedicated officers into disrepute.”

“Idiot. Deadset loser!” said another.

The woman was also alleged to have been smuggling unspecified items to the inmate and communicated with him using aliases in phone calls but she is only under investigation for the alleged inappropriate relationship. A Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said the officer had been suspended pending the investigation.
