Mantra delivers discounts for Games stays

- KATHLEEN SKENE AND RYAN KEEN

THE Gold Coast’s biggest hotel accommodation operator is offering early discounted room rates during the Commonwealth Games.

To mark ticket requests for Games events officially opening this coming Monday, Mantra Group are offering 10 per cent off a selection of rooms at its Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach hotels.

The discounts come after the Bulletin revealed earlier this week that Gold Coast Tourism planned to crackdown on “misleading” booking sites advertising hotel rooms at more than 10 times the actual rate during the Games.

Hotels Combined, one of the world’s largest hotel search engines, had listed hugely in- flated and incorrect Q1 Resort and Spa prices at $19,494 for two adults for two nights, later blamed on third-party suppliers.

A direct booking with Q1 is priced at $1726.

Mantra’s new 10 per cent discounts are available at Breakfree Longbeach, Mantra Sun City, Peppers Soul all in Surfers and Mantra Broadbeach on the Park.

They apply to minimum three-night stays and are for stays from March 29 to April 17, 2018 during the course of the Games.

The online listings falsely advertising inflated room rates during the Games have been removed from major travel search engines following the coverage in the Bulletin.

Kayak Asia Pacific director Susan Lee said: “As the world’s leading travel search engine, at KAYAK.com.au we pride ourselves on our ability to offer travellers with information that is practical and reliable.

“The prices quoted for hotel accommodation during the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia are from a thirdparty booking site.

“We are looking into this issue with relevant partners to update our site accordingly.”
