Barton faces her Waterloo
her own set of powerful backers, including LNP state leader Tim Nicholls who in March declared the MP to be doing a “good job”.
Ms Barton and Mr Crisafulli both declined to comment due to LNP rules.
The seat is the last Gold Coast seat to undergo a preselection battle after Sam Cox – who works for Federal MP Stuart Robert – was named the candidate for Bonney, the new seat created in Labrador and Biggera Waters.
While the LNP is finalising its preselection, the Labor Party is just starting, having named just one candidate, Meaghan Scanlon, who will run for Gaven.
The party is expected to name Rowan Holzberger, who almost won the seat of South- port in 2015, as its candidate for Bonney in the next two days.
ALP sources said expressions of interest have opened for the northern Gold Coast seat of Theodore, which replaced Albert in the boundary realignment.
The seat is expected to be contested by at least two or three members.
The ALP has been conducting preselection seat-by-seat, concentrating on seats with the smallest margins first.
The preselection battles come after the Electoral Commission of Queensland released the final determination of the new electoral boundaries yesterday. There was no change to the proposed Gold Coast boundaries, including the creation of new electorates Bonney and Theodore.
