Cats pairing honoured

BROADBEACH are rewarding loyalty to the cause today with junior products Nathan Quick and Josh Searl to be made playing life members.

Quick (125 games) and Searl (110 games) have both chalked up 10 years in the blue and white hoops to qualify for the honour leading into the QAFL clash against Mt Gravatt at Ord Minnett Oval.

The recognition comes in the same week Cats youngster Hayden Carthew-Zimmer won a Rising Star nomination.

It was at selection time that the Cats gained and lost some.

“We’ve lost 13 goals from our side last weekend,” operations manager Jason Cotter noted of the loss of big Mitch Brewer (five goals), Josh Baxter (five) and Eddie Sansbury (three).

Brewer has groin issues, Sansbury is with the Gold Coast Suns NEAFL side and Baxter has been recalled by Southport, also for NEAFL duties.

Into the Cats side are Blake Erickson (Southport), Sharks rookie-listed Harrison Kerr (promoted from seconds), Luke Dempsey-Ceh (seconds) and Matthew Smith from Suns academy).

Labrador will have a new ruckman, Lachlan Davidson, for their clash with Sandgate at Cooke-Murphy Oval.

With regular Andy Hollis unavailable because of work, the Tigers called on Davidson to fill the void.

“Lochie deserves this because last year he played every game in the reserves but was left out of the grand final side,” coach Aaron Shattock said.

Palm Beach-Currumbin have lost star forward Jarryd Douglas for their danger game away to Wilston-Grange at Hickey Park in Brisbane.

Douglas, who kicked seven goals for the Lions last weekend, has shoulder issues.

The Lions have gained ruck-forward Jon Croad and half-forward Mitch Johnson from Southport, giving them six listed or former Sharks for the trip up the M1.

On the matter of road trips, Surfers Paradise will break new ground when they play Western Magpies at Rockville Oval in Toowoomba.

It will be the first time a Coast team has played on the Downs since Southport clashes with the Brisbane Lions reserves in 2000 and 2001. (back
