IT’S GAME ON AT MAIN BEACH MANE EVENT

-

Priceless ponies, cashed-up cars and million-dollar views – and that’s just looking at the fashions on the field.

The Gold Coast’s iconic Ferrari Brisbane Polo by the Sea returns to Doug Jennings Park, Main Beach today.

Part of the national Urban Polo circuit, the largest polo series in the world, the event starts at 11am with two world-class polo games on the field.

Reputed to be the most dangerous team sport in the world, the matches will display heart- stopping action from some of Australia’s best polo players along with the finest of equine athletes – all set against a backdrop of the beautiful Broadwater with more than $2 million worth of Ferrari vehicles on display.

But it’s not just the players who get all the action, with the crowd invited to join in the time-honoured tradition of the divot stomp, the increasingly popular Fashions on the Field competition, and the fun and frivolity of the men’s and ladies’ dash.

While the event is renowned for

hosting a who’s who of the best dressed, with a $2000 Hugo Boss voucher up for grabs for both the women and men in the Pacific Fair Fashions on the Field competition, there are some rules for fashionistas to follow.

Think linen jackets, chinos and tailored shorts for the men and sundresses and flat shoes or sensible heels for the ladies. Stilettos should not be worn so both the playing grass and the wearer don’t meet an unfortunate fate. Fascinators are frowned on — work with oversized sun hats instead. Once you’ve decided on your outfit, it’s time to choose a ticketing option.

Prices start at $84.80 for a Polo Lounge ticket. Set up like a beer garden, guests can buy drinks and snacks in the Lounge.

The next pricepoint is the $250 entry to the Main Beach Polo Club, which includes a gourmet lunch and premium alcohol positioned in an intimate “private club” environment.

Then there’s the Ferrari Brisbane VIP Marquee. Basically, if you haven’t heard about it, you’re probably not invited. Entry is $330 and can only be purchased by Urban Polo Association members or invited guests. But once you’re in you’ll be served premium food and beverages in the heart of the action – as well as being given an entrée to the who’s who of the corporate and social scene. Funds raised will also go towards the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation, the charity partner of the event.
