Eight nabbed in bikie raids

EIGHT people were arrested after $745,000 in drugs were allegedly uncovered in a series of bikie raids across the Gold Coast.

Among the haul was 154 grams of cocaine, 7g of ice, 40 cannabis seedlings, 8 vials of steroids, 192 steroidal tablets, and 89 mature cannabis plants.

One loaded shotgun and $158,000 cash was also allegedly found.

It is alleged former bikies were involved in the regular transporta­tion of cocaine from Sydney to the Gold Coast, using a number “safe houses” across the Coast. Police executed 12 search warrants at homes in Mermaid Waters, Carrara, Broadbeach Waters, Reedy Creek and the Gold Coast Hinterland.

The raids were part of Operation Maduro, started by the Crime and Corruption Commission in 2016. The operation targets former Hells Angels and Comanchero­s bikies.

Officers from the Organised Crime Gangs Group and Gold Coast RAP, alongside drug detection dogs from the Australian Federal Police and Australian Border Force, conducted the raids.

A man, 38, was charged with one count of possess explosives. He will appear in court on June 22. A 47-year-old man was charged with four counts of possession of dangerous drugs. A 30-year-old man was AS THE nights grow increasing­ly cold, the animals of Storybook Farm are rugging up.

And none more so than resident chooks, Dory and Pecky Becky, who don’t have enough feathers to keep themselves warm.

Lisa-Jayne Cameron, founder of the Canungra sanctuary, said the girls didn’t have many feathers after being rescued from an egg production farm three weeks ago. “If it’s cold they wear their coats ... they’re woollen and flannel at the moment,” Ms Cameron said.

The coats attracted funny looks from the other chickens at first but Ms Cameron said they were slowly starting to grow down back, and were learning to roost and scratch. charged on two counts possess dangerous drugs and steroids and possess utensils, and a 42year-old man on possess dangerous drug and possess weapons.
