Hospital losing patients

It was also ahead of Cairns (363 notices), Townsville (209) and the Sunshine Coast (194).

“There is clearly something wrong with our mental health system when hundreds of mental health patients on strict orders are going missing or fleeing from authorities,” Opposition MP John-Paul Langbroek said.

In the 12 months to February 2016, 167 patients went missing 286 times. More than 152 of those were escapes from “locked facilities”.

The latest reporting shows the Coast had 1101 involuntary orders for 2015-16, the highest number for any regional district.

In terms of involuntary patients, to June 2016 the Gold Coast had 546, just behind the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (556).

This patient load contrasts with the Sunshine Coast (298), Townsville (361) and Mackay (138). THE Bachelorette’s Jake Ellis might still be looking for love but the woman most deserving of a rose has been by his side all along.

The Benowa Waters reality television star gave the public a glimpse of his mother Robyn’s battle with cancer on the show but until now she’s remained mum on the details.

To raise awareness for the Pink Ribbon Cup Raceday, to be held at Gold Coast Turf Club in September, Mrs Ellis is sharing all the details of her 23-year cancer fight with Gold Coast Eye magazine.

“There were a few procedures I had while Jake was filming that even he wasn’t told about,” Mrs Ellis said.

Ellis said he wasn’t surprised his brave mum tried to spare him the details — she’s been protecting him ever since she was diagnosed when he was just seven.

“The C word is a scary word. Statistics show most of us will be living with or supporting someone with cancer. I’m so proud of Mum.”
