I am most proud of because of the thinking ahead aspect.”

The council will spend more than $100 million on roads, $18.2 million on beaches and $2 million for the next study of the cruise ship terminal.

Other projects to receive funding include the art gallery as a part of the arts and cultural precinct, the last payments for connecting light rail to Helensvale and the design of stage three of the light rail to Burleigh.

About $106 million will be spent maintaining existing infrastructure and $322 million on capital works.

The city’s debt is also expected to be reduced by about $48 million.

Cr Tate said this would be done without cutting frontline services and no cuts to the Surfers Paradise Alliance, Broadbeach Alliance and Connecting Southern Gold Coast.

“It’s about refocusing our council structure to deliver better value for money.”

Study Gold Coast and Gold Coast Tourism are in line for record funding.

Cr Tate said it was these two pillars that would help prevent a post-Games hangover.

“What I want to do is have the international students who stay longer and spend more increase,” he said.

International students contribute about a billion to the city’s economy each year. Cr Tate said $2.7 million in funding to Study Gold Coast would allow the agency to focus on attracting more students.
