Legislation holds back Gold Coast

- WHAT SHOULD GOLD COAST PRIMARY STUDENTS BE STUDYING?

WHO IS ON YOUR BUSINESS MOBILE’S SPEED DIAL? Development properties. If someone invested $1 million 20 years ago in most forms of development sites on the Gold Coast, the value of the properties would have grown exponentially. YOUR BIGGEST FRUSTRATION DOING BUSINESS ON THE GOLD COAST AND HOW TO FIX IT? Having to work to legislative frameworks put together in Canberra and Brisbane and getting governmental action to change or finetune the legislation. Our FIRB residential property rules hold us back because they were designed to protect the interests of Melbourne and Sydney residents. Any ban on wealthy foreigners owning property ignores the ability of places like the Gold Coast to provide resort-style living for these people. ONESECTOR Construction boss Nick Ray is making waves in the name of charity.

Nick, pictured with teammate Daniel Carruthers, recently took part in the Maui Jim 54km Molokai Challenge in Hawaii.

The race is billed as the “ultimate test of paddling skill” and required Nick and Daniel (who entered the stand-up paddleboard section) to take turns in a relay race across the Kaiwi Channel – reportedly one of the world’s roughest.

“Conditions were the worst you can get. There is supposed to be no wind at that time but it was rough and we were knocked around,” he said.

The pair completed the race in six hours – raising $15,000 for Gold Coast charity Men of Business in the process.

MOB runs mentoring programs to instil healthy attitudes and lifestyles in at-risk teenage boys.

Nick plans to raise more money through Onesector’s team taking part in the Gold Coast Marathon and proceeds from his second Mancave project at Molendinar.

He expects to hand over a cheque for $25,000 to MOB next month.

PEAK Equities director Tom Borsky has established an “office” on the Gold Coast – one with not a bad view.

The Melbourne-based accountant, who manages funds on behalf of a syndicate of property investors, has been active on the Gold Coast in recent years.

Earlier this year he bought a pad for $2.07 million in Oracle’s beachfront Tower One.

“It is a bit cute to say we have an office but I have bought an apartment and I am working up here 50 per cent of the time,” he said.

“The place we bought is a high quality apartment with an amazing view.”
