TOP THINGS TO DO THIS WEEKEND

-

It started as a little country flower show … 89 years later it has its own app.

Yep, the Mudgeeraba Show has blossomed from old-fashioned fete to modern fate … but don’t let the technology fool you.

Sure you can download the twoday event schedule straight to your smart phone, but that’s not what this festival is all about. For almost nine decades, the heart of the Mudgeeraba Show has beat true to its country roots – and that’s the secret of its 21st-century success.

“Who would have thought that from the humble beginnings in 1928 as a flower show and fete, that today we would have this wonderful annual event so prominent on the Queensland calendar?” says Mudgeeraba Show Society president Des Kurz.

“Of course a lot happened within those years: horse sports and games were added, horticulture, the

traditional side shows, handicrafts and school exhibits. It’s a mix of events, activities, entertainment and exhibits that bring together that wonderful mix of ‘town and country’.

“Have you ever wondered why the Mudgeeraba Show is so successful? I can tell you it is because we value our traditions.

“We strive to make sure that you, your family and your friends have a wonderful Show experience. One that leaves such a lasting impression that you will want to return next year and the year after, and eventually you will want your children and your children’s children to experience the genuine warmth of the Mudgeeraba Show.”

Highlights of this year’s show include equine events, handicrafts, horticultural exhibits, cooking and preserves displays, woodchopping competition, ute muster, cattle and sheep displays and plenty of family entertainment, home-grown food and fresh country air – all in the heart of the Gold Coast.

So round up the kids, grab your Akubra and download the app (search “Mudgeeraba Show 2017” in the App store) and enjoy some country fun in the city.
