In a four-page reply, Ms Carter slammed Mr Pyne and called for an apology.
She claimed allegations made about her were false, made without evidence, sourceless, vexatious and malicious. Ms Carter, a candidate in the 2016 Ipswich council election, said Mr Pyne would have been the subject of legal proceedings for defamation if the claims had been made outside of Parliament.
“The allegation itself smacks of a cheap attempt by Mr Pyne’s friends in the Labor Party to obtain a political advantage of their own, without having to prove their slurs’’. Ms Carter called on Mr Wellington to refer Mr Pyne to the Parliamentary Ethics Committee.
Ms Miller said she would refer the allegations to the Crime and Corruption Commission. Asked if Pisasale’s arrest was vindication, Mr Pyne said: “I do feel vindicated”. Pisasale was granted bail on Wednesday in Brisbane Magistrates Court. He was charged with extortion and assault.
