Pair face trial for shooting

-

Police allege the victim was asleep on the bed when he was shot in the face.

In a committal hearing at Southport Magistrates Court yesterday, a woman who lived at the Ashmore property, Bailey Ott, conceded the two men who returned to the house about 4am could have been different to those who bought the drugs two hours earlier.

The court heard Ms Ott did not see the men clearly because it was dark. She gave a statement to police because she was afraid the Department of Child Services would take her children after the incident.

“... There was blood everywhere and I didn’t want my children to wake up and see ...,” Ms Ott said.

The court yesterday heard Long had a look of surprise and responded “I didn’t do anything” when the gun discharged. He and Eastman then allegedly ran off. ONE day a year, Canadians drink away the pain of having their country called “Canadia”, being blamed for Justin Bieber and their sudden influx of US immigrants.

That day is today, and House of Brews owner Sacha Kanaghines has made sure it will be a good one. “We have a significant Canadian patronage but also a good number of our staff are from Canada,” he said.

“So when our Canadian staff mentioned how much they missed the food and drinks from home, we thought why not bring them back for the day?

“I’m always hearing from local students on exchange that it’s nice to hear a familiar accent and that keeps them coming back regularly, as well as that cheeky Canadian sense of humour, eh.”

With the help of his Canadian counterparts, Mr Kanaghines has strayed from the beers and burgers in favour of more traditional Canadian fare.

“We’re serving traditional Canadian Caesars and poutine we’ve been working on for months,” he said.

“We’ve also had our Canadian staff create an authentic playlist and this year featuring Justin Bieber on repeat.”
