Publican Peter’s can-do attitude

then go with it and do something about it.

A LONG LUNCH – A WASTE OF TIME OR ESSENTIAL? Well, I don’t have many of these but do occasionally and normally they are rewarding. I do get to a lot of charity and sporting lunches, which I find better as you get to talk to a lot of people in different businesses and sometimes organise meetings from those functions as well as you get to donate to the cause.

WHO IS ON YOUR BUSINESS MOBILE’S SPEED DIAL? Not anyone special. Just family, a few mates and a few sporting celebrities. IF YOU HAD A SPARE $1 MILLION, WHAT INDUSTRY WOULD YOU INVEST IN? I’d be building another 10 of the Can Vans and putting them in all of the capital cities in Australia. On another note probably micro breweries/boutique bars or coffee shops in the right locations.

WHAT SHOULD GOLD COAST PRIMARY STUDENTS BE STUDYING? That’s a hard one as things change in cycles. Like now you have tradies making more money than the white collar workers. But by the time they get out of secondary school the whole environment could of changed. YOUR BIGGEST FRUSTRATION DOING BUSINESS ON THE GOLD COAST? AND HOW TO FIX IT? Well, the biggest frustration is all the liquor licensing changes that have been brought in by the current government. The biggest of these are the ID scanners from 10pm, seven days a week. This will not change a thing but put a lot of expenses back to the hotelier. Just doing the scanning on Friday and Saturday nights would be a good start. Having security on duty seven nights a week to scan a couple of people coming in to play the pokies is just absolutely ridiculous. BUNNINGS Warehouse has opened its sixth store on the Gold Coast.

The new hardware store is in the Q Super Centre at the corner of Markeri and Bermuda Sts at Mermaid Waters.

It features an outdoor nursery and a wide range of home improvement and outdoor living products.

“Team members have already supported community groups, working together to assist in local community projects including revitalising outdoor vegetable gardens at Albert Waterways Community Childcare Centre and planting gumtrees for koalas at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary,” said a Bunnings spokesperson.

“Bunnings is always looking for ways to contribute to local causes and we look forward to providing assistance to more community groups.”

BEAUTY entrepreneur Jellaine Dee is launching a range of liquid matte lipstick as part of her Kiss Poverty Goodbye campaign.

This comes after the Gold Coast-based businesswoman was in an SBS documentary series where she lived among Melbourne’s homeless community for 10 days and nights.

Despite being picked to participate in Filthy Rich and Homeless for her seemingly privileged lifestyle, Dee is no stranger to poverty.

“I spent much of my childhood changing schools and escaping to women’s refuge centres to flee a violent stepparent,” the Cherry Blooms founder said.

“My desire to make a difference as well as creating a sense of security and freedom for myself and my family is what has motivated me in business.”

She said the lipsticks were “vegan-friendly, cruelty-free and paraben-free.”
