Big brands join in on the act at Splendour

YOU can bet your Mambo party shirt or Samsung smart phone you’ll see more brands on stands per band at Splendour in the Grass than any other festival in the land.

While the three-day music and camping festival is held in the heart of Byron Shire, an area once considered the home of all things countercul­ture, Splendour in the Grass has morphed into a marketing opportunit­y too good for big business to miss.

Some of the world’s largest companies have jumped at the chance to align their logos and brands with the sold-out event as its popularity continues to grow.

From a curated Mambo art installati­on to Red Bull Sound Select and Smirnoff Lodge, there’s a logo to pogo around on every corner inside the festival gates.

This year, the party has spread throughout town.

The success of clothing label Nana Judy’s first off-site Coachella-style event during last year’s Splendour has seen a flood of similar gatherings pop up around Byron town this year as companies cash in on the festival’s buzz.

Nana Judy is back with another Instagram-mable celeb gathering, this time at musician and Byron local Angus Stone’s rural property.

The guestlist includes Grinspoon’s Phil Jamieson, The Rubens’ Sam Margin, pro surfer Laura Enever, former AFL player Joel Patfull and blogstar Elle Ferguson.

Spotify held an offsite Splendour party yesterday, while local fashion label Spell will throw another today.

“People want to be part of the action — even if they haven’t got a ticket,” an event organiser said.

British cosmetics company Rimmel has flown people in from throughout Australia to hang out at Rimmel House and will do puners’ make up and nails inside the festival gates while they recharge their phones at its Rimmel Recharge Room.
